Alcatel-Lucent Selected by China Telecom for CDMA/EVDO Network Evolution

Alcatel-Lucent announced on June 1 at the Expo 2010 in Shanghai that the company and China Telecom had entered into a supply agreement, under which Alcatel-Lucent will supply telecom equipment for use in China Telecom's CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access)/EV-DO (Evolution-Data Only) Rev.B network, according to a press release by Alcatel-Lucent on June 1. Leveraging Alcatel-Lucent EV-DO Rev.B solution, China Telecom is able to improve its incumbent CDMA network's mobile broadband network speeds by up to three times, with an expected uplink speed between 6.2Mbps (for 2.5MHz) and 9.3Mbps (for 3.75MHz) and an downlink speed between 3.6Mbps (for 2.5MHz) and 5.4Mbps (for 3.75MHz), according to the same source. To date, Alcatel-Lucent has assisted China Telecom to deploy CDMA/EV-DO networks in 56 cities across nine provinces in China, according again to Alcatel-Lucent's press release.
